Kyani & Co was our next stop after B Merwan. Walking distance from B Merwan, I noticed a long rope hanging from the ceiling as you enter the café. You need support climbing those few stairs to enter the café, use the rope’s support 🙂
With a new sign board, Kyani & Co appears more spacious & a little younger than B Merwans. Few tables were still empty when we reached & could see family, group of friends enjoying their breakfast. The menu is an elaborate one & can be read from the table itself as its stuck on the table’s glass. We started by calling for a cross-bun maska, half fry, chutney sandwich, Pallonji’s, Masala Soda & Plum Cake.
“1 a penny, 2 a penny Hot Cross Buns” this is what came to my mind when I saw the cross-bun maska. Very soft with a small cross on the top, the bun was smeared with maska & was topped with a little sugar. The sugar gave a nice texture to the bun-maska. Berries added another burst of flavor. Berries were found only in Kyani & Co’s buns.
Veg chutney sandwich was 2 slices of bread, butter & chutney and was absolutely average.
Half fry looked really awesome with runny yolks but was oily.
The plum cake was really fresh. I am not a big fan of plum cakes as it has very high cinnamon flavor. But this plum cake was perfect for me as its cinnamon didn’t dominate the taste.
The drinks – Pallonji’s &Masala Soda. Was tasting Pallonji’s for the 1st time. Served in a normal soda glass bottle this dark pink, cough syrup look alike drink tasted nice. For me it was very close to redbull. The masala soda was ok-ok.
Another classic irani café of Mumbai with its old world charm. Visiting this place soon again to try out all the other great stuff on the menu.
