Royal Thali at Delhi Highway,Bangalore

In the heart of Indiranagar -12th Main, amidst of restaurants and pubs serving cuisine right from Italian, African, Vietnamese, Japanese and European lies Delhi Highway who welcomes you with it with its royal darbar ambience. The double high ceiling with beautiful artistic designs on both sides of the wall will instantly make you in love with this place. The place is brightly lit with comfortable sofas and chairs spread across space.

We started our royal journey with the following dishes –

Virjin Mojito – Little sweet to my taste, it was nothing extraordinary but was liked by all.

Triple Orange – A mixture of orange and cranberry juice. Can be avoided.

Tamatar Dhaniya Shorbha – Mildly spiced soup with good thickness and consistency.

IMG_20170713_201802
Masala Papad – Beautifully presented, they were served in shot glasses. A small twist made of topping papad with mint and garlic chutney made it quite interesting to eat

Pani Puri Shots: Not exciting at all. Fusion of panis was served which included Cranberry and Mango. Couldn’t have more than one shot.

IMG_20170713_204346

Naram Dil Kebab – Crisp from outside and finely diced tender paneer inside having a coating of cornflakes from outside, the kebabs were just amazing.

Dahi Seekh kebab – The kebabs were not eaten by me but everyone seems to have enjoyed the dish.

Mozzarella Kulchas – All I can say is WOW about this dish. What an extraordinary preparation this was. Italian style kulchas stuffed with mozzarella and served with herb and garlic butter. I could see most repeat orders of this preparation. Must have dish at Delhi Highway

Cheese Aloo Tandoori – Baby potatoes marinated in curd and grilled in tandoor garnished with grated cheese.

Achari Paneer Tikka – The most loved variation of the popular tikka flavoured with pickling spices. Paneer was again soft and juicy.

IMG_20170713_205232

Charcoal Mushroom – One more outstanding dish. Mushrooms were prepared in tandoori style with a stuffing of grated paneer and spices making it the most delectable item of the menu.

Broccoli Pesto Tikki – They were very similar to hara bhara kebabs in looks except it had a stuffing of chopped broccoli topped with pesto chutney.

Kadai Pasta: Penne Pasta tossed in a special desi gravy topped with a good number of exotic veggies and olive oil. It was served with garlic naan. The combination was unique and was executed very well

IMG_20170713_214715Sizzling Mattar Kulcha – Mildy spiced mutter chole served with fluffy and soft kulches on a bed of cabbage leaves.

The main course served in a heavy copper plate with heavy bowls filled with dry and gravy sabji, dal and salad. The thali had Pindi Chana(Rawalpindi style cooked chickpeas), Paneer Lababdar (Cottage cheese cubes cooked in red tomato gravy), Daal Delhi Highway(black daal cooked overnight on tandoor), Kadai Paneer, Dum Biryani and Jeera rice. Daal Delhi and Pindi Chana were simply outstanding. Daal was perfect in every sense and Chana will surely remind you of your grandmother’s secret recipe. Again to our surprise, everyday rice in North India simply blew our mind. The aroma of cumin seeds was fresh and went very well with Dal Makhni. Rich and creamy Punjabi lassi wasserved in kulhad with pista coating on it.

IMG_20170713_215451

For desserts, we were served Jalebi with rabdi and apricot halwa. The jalebis were simply outstanding. The golden coloured jalebis were made to perfection. Right from the colour, texture, sweetness and shape, everything was bang on. On the other hand, the flavour of apricot was quite strong which was not liked very much by everyone.

The Thali at Delhi Highway is priced at Rs.650 + taxes but trust me it’s worth the money you spend. The thali Menu is huge and offers you variety of traditional starters to fusion dishes to simply mind boggling main course and desserts. Also, the portions are good enough for you to skip next day’s breakfast 😀

Craving for North Indian Food? Without thinking even for once visit Delhi Highway.

Also, don’t forget to order Mozzarella Kulcha, Jalebi and Charcoal Mushrooms

Box8 – Innovative,Convenient & Pocket Friendly

img_20161016_124914

Recently our team EatReviewRepeat got an invite from Box8 to review their food products. As per the plan, it was decided that the food will be delivered to our house for lunch. Without any phone calls/reminders piping hot food packaged in first class style was delivered at our doorsteps.

We had Rolls, Sandwiches, Salads, Box8 meal, Biryani, Lemonade & Desserts for the feast. We started off with Grilled Patty sandwich & veg tandoori mix wrap. The sandwich was very basic with veg patty, mayo based signature sauce & fresh veggies in it. Veg Tandoori wrap having baby corn, mushrooms, olives & jalapenos was a big surprise. It was a delight eating this wrap.

Next was Farmers Market salad – The amalgamation of mushrooms, baby corn, olives & jalapenos along with dressing was outstanding. It was one of the best salads that we had till date. Simply loved it. Chole tikki meal came with grilled patty, dal makhni, salad, chutney and bit size gulab jamun with it. Chole were perfectly cooked reminding us of our home cooked food.

Subz Hando curry placed in the supreme product category of Box8 failed to impress us. With all the exotic veggies cooked in Mughlai way, the gravy part could have been much better. This dish can be easily given a miss. On the other hand what impressed us was their perfectly made parathas – soft, crisp and melt in mouth.

The Shahi paneer biryani comes with minty curd. Loaded with tender and juicy paneer cubes, this dish is a meal in itself. The masala lemonade made from lime and rock salt tasted great. For desserts, the moong dal halwa was simply a hit. Made with pure ghee it was lip smacking.

What we really enjoyed was the quality of the ingredients & spices used while making the products. Apart from that their delivery and packaging is quite robust. Kudos to team Box8 for such a lovely experience!!

A Royal Feast at Delhi Highway

Staying in Bangalore has its own pros and cons. On one hand the city is full of youth and has pleasant climate while on the other hand it fails to satisfy the North Indian food craving of lacs of people staying in the city. Thanks to my internship program,I am back in the Maximum City where finding north Indian food is not a task.

DSC_0249

Who doesn’t like variety of food items being served on a single platter and that too with unlimited servings? Delhi Higway – A North Indian restaurant that serves vegetarian food. Oh Yes !! Pure veg food which is unconventional as per the preferred cuisine in the North. Located in the Times Square Building, this place can be easily reached via Metro train. Recently on a Saturday afternoon, I was a part of bloggers table where we were offered authentic North Indian food to make sure that our whole Sunday post lunch is utilized only for Sleeping. The 19th Main Cafe

This small cafe lies on the left hand side of the road if you are heading towards Nagarjuna – the best residential apartment of HSR Layout. A small spread of tables and chairs will welcome you once you reach the top of the building i.e terrace which is pretty compact in space.

I have been to this place 2-3 times and have found only one person taking and serving your order.Hence if you are a laid back person, you will enjoy this place.

Speaking about the food items, the menu doesn’t seems to be very attractive with many of the dishes slightly over priced. We had array of dishes starting from Manchow soup, Honey sesame potato, Szechwan fried rice along with Manchurian gravy, Aloo and gobi paratha. The parathas had good stuffing in it and were served with curd. The soup and other Chinese items were average in taste. The prices did not justify the quality at all.

I personally found this place to be ordinary except the rooftop ambiance which you can found in abundance in Bangalore

With an aim to bring the WOW experience into the city, Mumbai’s one-of-its kind popcorn outlet chain WOW Popcorn came into existence on April 28th, 2013.IMG_20150606_131355919

The highest quality of ingredients and best technology are used to make quality products keeping the health factor in mind.

Say Cheese

Say Cheese

The size of the shop of pretty small and is meant only for takeaways and in case one wants to eat inside, he/she has to stand and eat. The order taker Alex was polite and had a very good knowledge about each and every variety of popcorn available in the store. He informed that on weekdays popcorns are made in two batches and on weekends when the takeaways and home deliveries are more they cook in 3 batches.

Most of the varieties takes 15-20 minutes for the preparation but the caramel ones consumes the highest time to cook. Most of the items are cooked oil free but few drops are used while garnishing.

Mumbai Cheese Tadka

Mumbai Cheese Tadka

Alex served samples in tiny little glasses. The Salted Bolted (Plain Salted Popcorn) were made to perfection and had the perfect salt taste in them. Utter Butter Flutter (Butter Salted) were a bit disappointing as the butter taste was clearly missing in them. Sizzling pudina were scrumptious and had a refreshing taste of mint in it. The cheese popcorn were an absolute delight to eat. The taste was a light fresh cheesy melt in your mouth experience. Cheddar cheese was of the highest quality was used in it. The Mumbai cheese tadka had little less cheese in it and additional flavors of chili and black pepper was present in it.

Mexicano

Mexicano

The flavor of the season- Mexicano had a good tangy taste in it mostly because of the jalapenos. The garlic flavor was hardly felt in it. Everyone’s favorite Caramel popcorn was crispy instead of being sticky like found at the most theatre places.

The puffs were properly covered with caramel and tasted heavenly. The Cocomello had a dark chocolate spread on the caramel popcorn. Instant favorite of all the chocolate lovers out there.

The unique flavors of WOW popcorn are on the expensive side but they surely will send your senses to the 7th heaven if you order the correct ones. Do try their cheese and caramel products, you shall definitely love them. At the end I was given a WOW box of caramel popcorn as a small gift.

Doolally Taproom

IMG_20150405_194758

Maharashtra’s and Pune’s first microbrewery, Doolally after going through rounds of licensing and permission related activities has finally kick started in Bandra, Mumbai. This comes a big relief for many people who couldn’t plan their weekend trips to Pune(Doolally :P).

IMG_20150405_194641This is the third brewery in the city after The Barking deer and The White owl that has opened its doors for all the craft beer lovers. But unlike others, this place functions as a tap room where the beer brewed in Pune is packaged and transported here in kegs. It is located at the Bandra reclamation in the same lane as Candies and IBar.

IMG_20150405_194650

The 80-seater Doolally looks like a bright nursery from the outside and is comparatively smaller than their outlet in Pune. The place has a very casual ambience offering coffee tables, community tables, wooden sofa and bar stools to sit on. There are books, “bored” games and newspaper stand to keep you entertained. Notably they have table fitted with sockets so that your mobile is fully charged up to take selfies and there is free Wi-fi available to post them on social media websites. The music is a mix of pop and rock numbers.

The place was packed on a Sunday evening and it was quite difficult for us to find an empty table. The pint is priced at Rs.250 and pitcher (1320 ml) at Rs.1000.Doolally signature, unfiltered wheat beer and summer time favorite Hefeweizen unsurprisingly went out of stock by 7pm. The others three available on the tap were Apple Cider(best known brew made with Himachal Belle apples),Oatmeal Stout(made with 25% oats and malt) and Indian Pale Ale(little sweeter than Oatmeal).

The Apple Cider made up of Himalayan apples tastes like Appy fizz with single digit % alcohol in it.

Oatmeal Stout

The Oatmeal Stout is a dark beer which has strong aroma of coffee and chocolate and gives a creamy mouthfeel because of oats. The Indian Pale Ale(IPA) was less sweet and frothy than Oatmeal stout. No other alcohol or bottled beers are available here. The only complaint we had was that the beer was not served at the correct temperature.

House Fries

House Fries

The food menu is limited for the vegetarians. The thick and fat hand sliced potato slices named as House fries (Rs.250) came with generous amount of five amazing dips – an aioli, a green mint chutney, cheese dip, mango salsa and curry flavored ketchup. All the dips were amazing in taste and a big round of applause to chef for providing such dips. The fries are spicy, salty and crispy encouraging you to drink more. The other veg options are Burger and Vegetable Ishtew with ghee rice.

For all the loyalists they offer memberships to the Doolally Mug Club (only 199 mugs available) for a Rs.3000 yearly fee, which gets you a dog-tagged mug that only you can drink plus you will be served 500 ml of beer for the price of pint(350ml) throughout the year. Do you need any more reason to love this place? They don’t charge any additional service charges.

Final Verdict:

Food: 6/10
Drinks: 6/10
Ambience: 5/10
Service: 5/10
Value for Money: 7/10

Overall : 6/10

o:h cha by Ankit Gandhi

DSC_0226Nestled inside the Mathuradas Mills Compound, the long corridor leads to the 3,500 square ft. Thai restaurant o:h cha Kitchen and Bar opened by Golden Elephant Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. o:h cha in Thai means delicious, tasty, succulent or savory, yummy and scrumptious .Thai cuisine renowned for its fine balance of the fundamental flavors sweet, sour, spicy and salty is being prepared by Master Chef Pipat Niyomsin here. The menu informs that he has worked for leading chains across the globe and was a former instructor at The Institute of Culinary art, Bangkok.

CSC_0272

As you will step inside, you will find yourself in a pleasing space. The interiors at o:h cha have been influenced by the paddy fields of Thailand, has faux grass on the wall and the other part is painted with dull grey color. The dimly lit bamboo lanterns hanging from the ceiling and the flying garuda bird on the top of the bar gives the restaurant a unique charm. The tables were laid for 8 people as we had made reservation for a 10 course set meal. The first meal to arrive on the table was Fried sweet wontons in a glass jar along with soya and spicy sauce. The sweet ones were sticky and the salted ones went pretty good with the sauces. The dimsums were the highlight of the meal.
