Restaurant Bay Watch: San Mateo

Back during my visit to they bay, this place always attracted my attention. A laid back diner serving some amazing looking breakfast items. This place was right besides my office. And as it turns out, with all good things, you crave for what you don’t have near with you. The diner is breakfast/brunch/lunch only. So as it turns out, almost a month went by before I could go visit them.

Global Chaos

On a Sunday evening, I boarded a completely uncrowded local to Churchgate. My townie mate Marzy happened to pick me up and we drove towards Global Chaos where I was invited for a food review. Here is my take on:

THE AMBIENCE: Global Chaos is located in the fort area of Mumbai. This ground plus one structure is quite well made. The lower section has their kitchen and just one table to accommodate a dozen people approximately. The well lit wooden stairs lead you to the upper level which is again brightly lit up and has a bar counter on one side. They have used some lovely lights inside. The interiors are relatively simple. The decorative wooden frames will catch your eye. They have a small elevator to bring all the food to the upper level in a jiffy. Wooden tables and comfortable wooden chairs with some sofas in certain sections comprise the seating arrangements. The ambience of this place is pretty good but when you compare it to the catchy name it has, they could have done a lot more may be.

Box8 – Innovative,Convenient & Pocket Friendly

img_20161016_124914

Recently our team EatReviewRepeat got an invite from Box8 to review their food products. As per the plan, it was decided that the food will be delivered to our house for lunch. Without any phone calls/reminders piping hot food packaged in first class style was delivered at our doorsteps.

We had Rolls, Sandwiches, Salads, Box8 meal, Biryani, Lemonade & Desserts for the feast. We started off with Grilled Patty sandwich & veg tandoori mix wrap. The sandwich was very basic with veg patty, mayo based signature sauce & fresh veggies in it. Veg Tandoori wrap having baby corn, mushrooms, olives & jalapenos was a big surprise. It was a delight eating this wrap.

Next was Farmers Market salad – The amalgamation of mushrooms, baby corn, olives & jalapenos along with dressing was outstanding. It was one of the best salads that we had till date. Simply loved it. Chole tikki meal came with grilled patty, dal makhni, salad, chutney and bit size gulab jamun with it. Chole were perfectly cooked reminding us of our home cooked food.

Subz Hando curry placed in the supreme product category of Box8 failed to impress us. With all the exotic veggies cooked in Mughlai way, the gravy part could have been much better. This dish can be easily given a miss. On the other hand what impressed us was their perfectly made parathas – soft, crisp and melt in mouth.

The Shahi paneer biryani comes with minty curd. Loaded with tender and juicy paneer cubes, this dish is a meal in itself. The masala lemonade made from lime and rock salt tasted great. For desserts, the moong dal halwa was simply a hit. Made with pure ghee it was lip smacking.

What we really enjoyed was the quality of the ingredients & spices used while making the products. Apart from that their delivery and packaging is quite robust. Kudos to team Box8 for such a lovely experience!!

Harsh Thali & Parathas

I am a traveler. Leisure, adventure or work related travel is something that happens quite frequently and that too since quite many years now. Food forms an integral part of all the travel escapades. Being a foodie, I love exploring a whole variety of regional food but there might just come a time when all of a sudden, you start missing home cooked food. After all, the amount of love that goes into home cooked food is unparalleled.

In Mumbai, there are scores of eat streets and fine dines but a handful places serving homely food are tucked away into some of the farthest and the unknown corners of the city and here is one that we happened to visit – Harsh Thalis & Parathas. Continue reading

Eat Around The Corner

Eat around the corner has come up with a whole new breakfast menu and Ninad, the man from Mars (He works with the mars group) invited me over for a Sunday Brunch. I was super excited frankly. The last time I had been to this place was when it was called “Just Around The Corner”. Here is my take on:

The Ambience: I must say that all the places owned by the Mars Group have extremely elegant interiors. Simple white tables, long benches and chairs with blue walls in the inside. There was a stretched counter towards the end of the property with so many beautiful food items on offer. Enter from one side, take a look at everything on offer, place your order and exit from the other side. The outer seating section is lovely as well. They have a brick oven outside and the seating area is quite well spread. With some sofas and low tables on the outside, it makes things cozier. I observed that they don’t have music in the background during the breakfast-brunch hours. A quiet brunch over some unending conversation is a great idea! Cometh the lunch hour, the music system is pressed into duty. Eat Around the Corner, just like the old ‘Just Around The Corner’ times is elegant and classy. Continue reading

Saffola Fit Foodie Menu by Meghana

Oats & me don’t share a good relationship. I use oats while baking snacks but just can’t have it on its own with hot or cold milk. Can manage to eat the Masala Oats though. So when Holachef invited us to taste their Saffola Fit Foodie menu, I was a little skeptical. This whole menu is designed by Archana Doshi of Archana’s Kitchen, whom I follow for recipes.
